Sacramental Preparation

Eucharist - Many parents wonder about when to invite their children to receive communion. As a church we invite all baptized Christians to the table. To support families in making a choice about when to begin the education of their children regarding the Eucharist, we offer a preparation program in the spring. Even if your children are already receiving communion, this is an excellent chance to enrich your family’s understanding of this central sacrament of our faith.

Confirmation - This important sacrament supports youth in answering the call God makes on their lives. It takes a full season of instruction, prayer and discernment for teens to choose to receive this sacrament. The youth who go through preparation for Confirmation are accompanied by a Mentor who supports them in their faith journey and shares their walk with the student.  This preparation takes place apart for youth ministry programs and is done in collaboration with several other parishes for a rich and rewarding experience.  You can see the schedule for confirmation by clicking this link – Confirmation Preparation Schedule.

Nursery

St. Michael’s provides a large, clean, well-maintained facility for our youngest children. The staff is paid and all employees are required to attend the Safeguarding God’s Children course. It is open on Sunday morning from 7:30 until Noon, as well as other times during the week to support other programs and activities.

Mothers’ Morning Out

While not technically an educational group, St. Michael’s provides a safe and caring environment for younger children on most Tuesday and Thursday mornings during the school year. This program is available to those in the community, as well as others.

Sunday School – Pre-school

Pre-school children, age 3 through 5, have a traditional Sunday school curriculum. The class includes a Bible story, crafts, playtime and a snack. Click here for the Sunday School Calendar

Sunday School – Elementary

Our Sunday School for Kindergarten through grade 5  is based on a classroom model. While we have an excellent core curriculum, the emphasis is on relationships between the leader and the student. We have excellent catechists who recognize that for each of us who follow Christ there have been important people in our lives who have modeled Christ. That is what we strive for at all levels of Sunday School. Click here for the Sunday School Calendar

Sunday School – Middle School

The middle school group meets during Sunday School time, but their lessons are directly tied to the lectionary. What they are learning in group ties into Sunday Worship, so that the worship experience and group become a seamless garment. This age group also has a number of opportunities during the year for more social, experiential and spiritual growth with Retreats and special events like a Superbowl Party, Laser Tag Lock-in and a Summer Mission Trip. You can find more information on Middle School on the Youth Ministry Page. Click here for the Sunday School Calendar

Sunday School – High School

The High School Group meets after the 10:30 service. They have a lively fellowship over food then a lesson based on the lectionary. This group has a wide range of other activities available to them. They participate in Retreats, Mission trips, Parties and engage in fund-raising for a tri-annual pilgrimage. Our next pilgrimage is schedule to take us to Italy for two weeks in 2010. You can find more information on High School on the Youth Ministry Page.

Children’s Chapel

This season our Children’s Chapel is taking a hiatus as we re-imagine what role this ministry will play in the future. It will almost certainly return after a season of rest to serve the needs of children at our 10:30 service.

Acolytes

Many of our children choose to serve as acolytes.
